FauxFlix Frequently Asked Questions

Are your videos produced automatically by software or custom designed by 'hand' for each client?

Some companies use software that automatically takes photos and converts them to slideshow format with standard transitions between each slide. But FauxFlix artists custom design each frame of your photo-video with your personal wishes in mind. We can emphasize some pictures more than others, focus on certain aspects of specific photos, time them to match music, and even place photos to match the timing of song lyrics.

Are there time limits or photo-count limits?

No. We can produce your video to match your time and photo-count constraints. For example, if you know you want 200 photos, but only have 10 minutes in which to show your video, we can combine photos on several slides as photo montages or photo collages, or we can simply move them side-by-side if you prefer.

Can you create special effects to give my video a stronger sense of motion or unique animation?

Yes. We have added floating bubbles, falling snowflakes, and drifting rose petals to video frames with beautiful results. We have even taken several photos of a car in motion and timed them to look like the car was actually moving, and added motorcycle sounds to rapid motion for a racing video..

I’m in a rush – how long will it take to get my video?

We automatically rush basic funeral memorial videos for a 24-48 hour turn-around time after receiving photos, whenever possible at no extra charge. We can usually provide that service for other projects for an additional fee (see pricing page). Normal completion time is 5-10 business days from receipt of digital photos to final video production. Projects requiring us to scan items can take an additional day. Extra requested items, such as extensive photo restoration may delay your project, in which case we will advise you of your expected delivery date before accepting your deposit.

Why should we use your service instead of another we found online?

We encourage you to visit other sites and compare our quality and prices. Please bookmark/add us to favorites so you can easily find us again after you have shopped around. Our videos include more features at a more reasonable cost than our competitors. We also take the time to get to know you and get a good understanding of your wants and needs.

What are some ways to use a slideshow DVD for wedding photos?

Guests at your rehearsal dinner will enjoy watching a video of the bride and groom’s childhood years. We can combine this with your wedding photos later for a timeless keepsake. We also suggest giving each guest a camera, using their photos to create a video, and then sending a copy to each guest as a “thank-you” gift. Many times guests capture precious moments that the professional photographers miss, since no one can be in several places at once!

How can we use a video in a memorial service?

We can set your video so that it loops, or plays again automatically, if you want to play it as a backdrop for the viewing. We have personally played a 15-minute video at the end of a memorial service, and found it a comforting, peaceful way to join together in quiet reflection on the life of an exceptional person.

We found that spacing some more humorous photos throughout the video, along with bringing the most special photos into focus and timing everything to match the mood of each music track was emotionally rewarding for the viewers.

If you choose to use our services, we will listen with our hearts when you share with us what made the person you are memorializing special and unique. This personal touch will shine through your video, as others have told us it has for them. We will post a memorial video when we can make a sample, but have not requested to use any clients’ actual videos out of respect.

Can you add video clips to my slideshow DVD?

Yes, we can add digital video clips and find that it makes most shows even more interesting.

What else can be included in my video?

Anything that can be scanned or recorded can be included! We can also add text to photos or separate pages of text with such things as poems, quotes, or song lyrics (we have lists of suggested songs for slideshows. Poems and lyrics also work well. Your basic package includes a title page and an ending credits page as well.

You may send a narration/voice clip, or we can narrate for you. We also have a large library of royalty-free sound clips and stock photos.

I have an idea for a special effect or transition for my video – can you create effects that are not shown in your samples?

Yes! If you can dream it, we can do it! We would love to include your ideas to make your video even more personal and unique.

What if I don’t like my video?

We guarantee your satisfaction. We will work to meet your specifications or return your money. And you won’t make your final payment until you have approved the final version after viewing it online.

Is it legal to use copyrighted music in my video?

If you own the CD or purchase your tracks from services such as iTunes or Rhapsody, you have the right to include the music for your personal use, including showing to family and friends. We can also purchase the music on your behalf. You may not sell or mass-produce items containing copyrighted music.

What if I need extra DVD copies for family and friends?

You can order extra copies from us or copy them using your own DVD writer. We do not use software protection that would prevent duplication of our slideshow DVDs.

What is the best way to present my video for viewing?

Most clients use laptop computers connected to projectors to show their video on a white wall or screen. Many churches, schools and offices have projectors to loan or rent, as do commercial rental companies. You can also use a television with DVD player, or a computer with a large screen.

I can’t afford to buy a video. What is the best way to make my own?

Our prices are very reasonable, and our videos are amazing, but we all have times when we just cannot afford something, and need to make it ourselves. So, although we don’t use Microsoft PowerPoint to produce our videos, this is a good option if you already own the software and know how to use it to apply motion, timing, and music. Also, Microsoft Movie Maker is usually included free with Windows.

Another alternative is to use a free online service to create your video, then show the online version during your event if you have access to the Internet there.

Or you could search www.download.com for free software that will do a pretty good job. The software from that site is more trustworthy than just picking programs up from unknown developers. If you decide later to convert your show to Flash, we can do that for you. We are not paid to mention either of these options in any way.

Two caveats: Always include all photo and music files for your show in your project folder in case you need to use another computer to show it. Otherwise your software may not be able to locate the files it needs to run your show. And ALWAYS test your show before your event on the exact equipment you will be using if at all possible.

Eventually, we plan to add quality DIY info to this site.
